Accommodation General

Booking of accommodation

Unfortunately, the official GR-132 does not run in such a way that there is not enough or even any accommodation for hikers at every stage destination. Since wild camping is officially forbidden and not everyone's thing, we have modified the route a bit in the variant described here, so that a shower, fresh towels and a bed are guaranteed every evening.

We recommend booking in good time, as despite our variant, depending on the location, there are sometimes only a few beds available. If you would like to reserve your overnight stays via booking.com, you are welcome to use ours tabular planning or booking aid to use.
Another tip: In any case, you should check again whether you have entered the correct date for all overnight stays - when booking five or six accommodations in quick succession, it is much easier to make careless mistakes than you think! This is one of the reasons why we chose the one just mentioned Circular hike planning aid thought up.

Stage 1: accommodation

Hotel Jardin Concha

The Hotel Jardín Concha is a small, friendly hotel with simply but neatly furnished and always very clean rooms (Link: Hotel Jardin Concha). Perfect for hikers: Located almost directly on the GR-132 in the district of "La Calera" and plenty of space on the balconies and terraces to relax or dry laundry.

There is a very tasty breakfast here, which can be taken on the roof terrace in good weather.

There is a wide range of other accommodation options in Valle Gran Rey. From small pensions to 4-star hotels, everything is represented. When booking accommodation, however, you should pay close attention to the location: The municipality of "Valle Gran Rey" consists of several districts, some of which are several kilometers apart. The district "Las Hayas" (destination of stage 2) also belongs to the municipality of Valle Gran Rey, but is over 1000 meters higher than La Calera! For stage 1, the districts of La Playa, La Calera or the easily accessible accommodation Hotel Gran Rey (3 stars, higher proportion of package travelers, link:  Hotel Gran Rey) or the Apartamentos Charco del Conde (apartment complex with simple but spacious rooms, pool, beach location, link: Apartments Charco del Conde).

For booking accommodation we recommend: our tabular planning aid.

Option: Two nights in Valle Gran Rey

If you want to take the circular hike on La Gomera slowly and have some time, it might be worth spending two nights in Valle Gran Rey. It is not for nothing that this part of La Gomera is the most popular holiday region on the island, numerous cafés and restaurants and a bit of hippie flair make your stay very pleasant and relaxed.

Tips for daytime activities in Valle Gran Rey:

  • Bathing in the Atlantic: One of the most beautiful natural beaches of La Gomera is located at the southwest end of Valle Gran Rey behind the district "Playa de la Calera".
  • Short hike to the waterfall at "El Guro": A very popular and family-friendly hike leads to the waterfall near the artist's village "El Guro", which is well worth seeing.
  • demanding day hike through the rocky gorge "Barranco de Argaga"The hike described here The first part leads up through a spectacular rocky gorge, but the second part is identical to the descent into Valle Gran Rey from our stage 1. If you want, you can instead extend the hike to El Cercado or Chipude and from there take the bus back to the Valle Drive Gran Rey (currently daily except Sundays with line 1, Note the bus timetable).

The natural beach "Playa del Inglés" is one of the most beautiful on the island

Stage 2: accommodation

The Pension Jardin las Hayas consists of a main building in the center of town and the apartments, which are a few minutes' walk away (Link: Jardin read Hayas).
In the main building - the "Casa Efigenia" - is the reception and the vegetarian restaurant. The guest room is more reminiscent of a somewhat outdated youth hostel or mountain hut, but the kitchen is genuine, guaranteed without preservatives or flavor enhancers and also very cheap (menu approx. 10 €).

Other than the restaurant, the apartments and rooms are up to date, clean, well-kept and comfortable!
Located in a small garden, apartments, terraces and rooms alternate with each other. After a strenuous day of hiking, you can enjoy the evening sun here on beautiful garden furniture!

In Las Hayas there are other accommodations at booking.com. When choosing accommodation, however, pay close attention to the location: "Las Hayas" is not an independent place with just over 100 inhabitants, but belongs to the municipality of "Valle Gran Rey" as well as the districts "La Playa" or "La Calera", which are directly at sea level " (goal of stage 1).

When booking accommodation, we also recommend: our tAbellar planning aid.

Alternative: "Rural Gomera" in Arure

The restaurant operators of the "El Jape" restaurant also rent two small apartments in the village under the name "Rural Gomera" (Link: Rural Gomera). The apartments are simple but very clean and offer very good value for money. The slightly shorter route speaks for an overnight stay in Arure (Las Hayas is not directly on the GR-132): The time saved in this way can be used, for example, by starting stage 2 in the afternoon and enjoying the amenities of Valle Gran Rey in the morning (Swimming at the natural beach "Playa del Ingles").

Stage 3: accommodation

Aparthotel Triana II

Aparthotel Triana II is fairly new and very clean accommodation at a very reasonable price (Link: Aparthotel Triana II). This is due to the fact that breakfast is not offered here, and that the reception is not always manned.

Neither is a problem for hikers: various bars in the area take care of the breakfast supply and for late arrivals the simplest of all possible solutions has been thought up: the keys are in the room from the outside and a notice at the reception assigns the guests to their room numbers. Life on La Gomera can be so easy!

The rooms are spread over two different courtyards, a small kitchenette is available in each room for self-catering - just perfect for hikers!

Update from 05/15/2017: Recently there have been different experiences as far as the problem-free check-in is concerned - the reception officially closes at 3:00 p.m. It is therefore advisable to write "Late Arrival" in the comment field when making the reservation and be prepared when you arrive at the hotel that you may first have to make a phone call and wait a short while before the keys are handed over.

From the outside rather without charm...

...from the inside but a perfect and well-kept accommodation!

For booking accommodation, we recommend our tabular and therefore particularly clear planning aid: to the tabular overview.

Stage 4: accommodation

Hotel Rural Ibo Alfaro

The building of the Hotel Rural Ibo Alfaro was originally an old manor house, which was lovingly renovated and converted into a hotel, so that the charm of the original architecture shines in all its glory today (Link: Hotel Rural Ibo Alfaro).

The rooms and bathrooms are comfortable and the breakfast is excellent: many hikers will be happy about the fresh wholemeal bread!

The hotel is located slightly above the village, so after a strenuous day of hiking, an extra 50 meters in altitude must be planned for. You will be rewarded with a beautiful view from the well-kept terrace or from your room.

For booking accommodation we recommend: our tabular planning aid.

Stage 5: accommodation

Hotel Torre del Conde

The centrally located Hotel Torre del Conde is a fairly new and well-kept middle-class hotel with a beautiful view of the adjacent park with the eponymous fortified tower "Torre del Conde" from the 15th century (Link: Torre del Conde).
Hikers are welcome guests here and on some days they even outnumber them, as the hotel is often booked by guided hiking groups.
The hotel has a small roof terrace with a whirlpool and an infrared heat cabin.

Tip: This overnight stay is suitable for stages 5 and 6 if you take the bus back to San Sebastián de la Gomera after stage 6. You can then stay 2 nights in the same accommodation and hike with smaller luggage on the last day.

For booking accommodation we recommend: our tabular planning aid.

Hotel Villa Gomera

Reader feedback from Almuth (testimonial): The Hotel Villa Gomera is also highly recommended. This is on the same street as the Hotel Torre del Conde (Link: Hotel Villa Gomera).

Luxurious: Overnight stays in the "Parador de La Gomera"

If you want to treat yourself to a piece of "typical Spanish" luxury at the end of the circular hike around La Gomera, you can of course also rent a room in the local hotel of the state hotel chain "Paradores". Hotels in this chain are mostly located within historic walls and/or in a unique scenic location. The Parador de La Gomera is enthroned on a rock above San Sebastián de la Gomera, has a large garden with subtropical plants and a great view, even from the swimming pool (Link: Parador de La Gomera). The hotel is the only 4-star hotel in the island's capital, San Sebastián de La Gomera.
