Walk around the island in a week!

Experienced mountain hikers can walk around La Gomera within a few days on the "GR-132" hiking trail and offers spectacular views of rugged rocks, lush greenery, the deep blue sea and the nearby neighboring islands.

Anyone who has already been enthusiastic about more demanding hikes with plenty of altitude meters in the Alps will not be disappointed by La Gomera: the island's topography, which is rich in canyons, hardly allows for a daily stage that is less than 1000 meters in altitude. The many vertical meters have their advantages, as they ensure extreme variety in every stage when crossing the different climatic zones of the island! The island is therefore an ideal destination for a small long-distance hiking project. For enthusiastic alpinists, the island is particularly interesting in the colder half of the year due to its year-round stable climate, which allows you to bridge the waiting time until the next hiking season in the Alps begins in early summer!

It is also definitely worthwhile to extend your stay on La Gomera by a few more days after the circular hike to relax: the atmosphere of this small island away from mass tourism is simply enchanting!

We hiked around the island ourselves for the first time in winter 2014/2015. As there was no proper material available about this trek at the time, we decided to compile our organisation, research and travel experience into this small online trek guide. We have cut our stages according to the availability of (online bookable) accommodation and have therefore deviated from the official GR-132 in a few places.

If you want to hike our route, you should not underestimate the length of the daily stages! The stages are demanding full-day hikes that should only be tackled with good hiking equipment and sufficient water supplies / provisions. In any case, the effort is worth it!

Happy hiking!

Frank
