GPX file import in the Viewranger app: brief instructions

The Viewranger app offers the possibility to import GPX files with GPS route information. Unfortunately, the Viewranger app is not entirely self-explanatory in this respect and the import is a bit cumbersome.

There are two steps to displaying a GPS route in the Viewranger app:

1.) Transferring the files to the smartphone (two alternative possibilities):

a) Connect via Dropbox

b) manual file transfer to the file directory of the smartphone app

2.) Choice, which of the transmitted routes should be displayed on the map ("import").

The procedure differs somewhat, depending on whether you are using the iPhone or the Android version of the app. The official Viewranger support page explains the individual steps in English (iOS - Advanced Topics or. Android - Advanced Topics). 

We explain the procedure for transferring files to the Viewranger app in the following section using the iPhone app - both for Dropbox import and for transfer via iTunes.

Car hire on La Gomera

If you would like to hike the 6-day circular hike described on this website only in parts or sections, you are kindly requested to send a own car difficult to get around. Luckily, rental cars on La Gomera are usually pretty cheap!

This is probably due to the fact that on La Gomera the option "all kilometres included" is offered, but due to the size of the island, the car rental company can be quite sure that his rental car will be driven on average significantly less than 100 km per day: There are no motorways on the island, and after about 100 km by car you have already driven around the island once. Another advantage of the small Canary Island: stealing cars is not worthwhile here - the opportunities for car thieves to escape are quite limited on La Gomera.

Most car rental companies on La Gomera have their offices in the island's capital, San Sebastián de La Gomera. The rental car is usually returned directly at the harbour basin, so that you can transfer directly to the ferry from there.
